_ABILITIES:
Tres is a very highly advanced machine built for one purpose and one purpose only. War. As such, he will never age. He will never die. He will remain fully functional so long as he maintains himself. It should be noted that Tres possesses a portion of a human brain and brain stem. It does not state how much gray matter he has nor if it was made in a laboratory like the rest of him. However, because of this, Tres requires a concoction of vitamin supplements to maintain that organic tissue. He is also shown to have something similar to blood. This is synthetic as is the rest of him.
His initial programming and original purpose was to replace an entire army of Holy Knights on his own. As such, he is ridiculously strong. He seems to be able to move around with at least a half ton of gear and weapons early in canon. He is also very resilient. He can sustain a great deal of damage and at one point in a side story, he blows off his own arm and continues to function. He's very fast, as he is used to combat enhanced supernatural beings.
He possesses a very quick, high functioning tactical computer and an operating system that can assess a situation quickly and come up with the most optimum scenario for success. This system is also used to avoid attack and he often tells opponents how many seconds slow they are to actually hit him. He has also been shown to have a photographic memory, as he was shown a newspaper for 10 seconds and asked to quote a random paragraph when testing an optical repair.
He has both a visual and an aural scanning system. This system has been used in canon to tell him how many targets had been in an area previously as well as what direction they went. These are tied to his "targeting" function. These are internal sensors and when activated in combat makes it so he never misses a shot. He can fire off multiple projectiles in many different directions rapidly, taking out entire groups of combatants in a very short amount of time. This is called "Genocide Mode".
Finally, he has shown to be able to hook up into other machine systems and use those sensors and processing capabilities for himself. He has powerful firewalls to prevent his own data being corrupted or accessed. There is no canon reference to his power source, but he is never shown to either eat nor sleep, nor do we see him charge up in any fashion, so whatever is powering him is self contained. He can be shorted out due to electrical currents, with a huge jolt of electric current shutting him down and forcing a reboot.
_PERSONALITY:
Before everything else, Tres is a machine. He generally comes off as stoically calm. He takes everything with the same flat, expressionless logic. He accepts ridicule and anger from a woman and child he saved in the novels with utter detachment. Insults and yelling at him won't hurt his feelings because he claims not to have any. His claim is substantiated with the fact that he never seems to register emotions like surprise or fear. His facial expression is usually blank. However, other characters who have been around him long enough tend to be able to see, or at least project feelings upon him, such as Ester remarking that Tres looked "grumpy".
He has two known "modes" of operation. He has a "Search mode," which gives him his basic normal functionality. This is usually how he goes around and interacts with the world around him. His other mode is called "Genocide Mode". This is his combat mode. When this mode is triggered, he goes into full combat operations until his targets are silenced or subdued.
Being a battle cyborg, Tres works with an unemotional, relentless, ruthless efficiency and his optimal functions are mostly limited to combat situations. Though he is a priest by title, he has no morals. He feels no guilt for anything he does. He openly admits to Brother Petro to having no shame or pride. He asks no questions. He is a weapon and his orders are absolute. Thus, he is often extremely inflexible with those orders and carries them out without regard to situational variances. He has even pointed his guns at his own allies. At one point he even tells Abel Nightroad, someone he's been on many missions with, that if he keeps getting in the way Tres will eliminate the man too. He says this without malice or hesitation, regardless of the fact that Abel is a friend. To Tres a target is a target.
Because he is a machine, he tends to use expressions much like a computer would, such as asking for a "status report" to assess someone's physical or emotional condition and responding to questions with "negative" or "positive/affirmative". When things confuse him, he tends to express it as "does not compute". He also refers to himself as a machine on many occasions, so it is pretty clear he is aware of what he is. It is because of this self awareness that he has no sense of self preservation. Though he doesn't follow the 3 Laws of Robotics, he has generally placed human survival above his own. He has stepped in front of bullets and attacks intended for others. He's taken attacks meant for Esther as well as Abel. When he is damaged he frequently reminds people that he won't die. He'll just break. He can't feel pain, so he can continue on, merely pausing long enough to access the level of damage to himself and compensating for it. This compensation is nearly automatic. He is able to alter his programming to suit the situation or the damage done to him. When his eyes are damaged and he is rendered blind, he automatically switches to aural targeting and returns to duty.
Despite his mechanical nature and obedience, he still seems to possess what passes for free will and autonomy. He has shown to be surprisingly human in thoughts and action beyond that capable of a typical robot. He has displayed both compassion and understanding when Ester asks Tres to be allowed to follow Abel. At first he denies her request, stating that she would be nothing but a hindrance to Abel. But when the nun becomes emotional and, arguing that even though she may be a burden, there was something she had to tell him; Tres appears to be unmoved at her words, but to her surprise, orders Kate to drop Esther at a nearby location, under the pretense that she would be a burden on their battleship as well. He insures that she is equipped enough to safely go out on her own. Another time, he refused to answer personal questions about Abel, initially claiming it was because of clearance issues. However after this, he suggests that the questioner, Esther, ask Abel these things herself.
He has the ability to refuse orders, shown when he spared the life of a young witch in the novels. Though his task was to hunt and kill the one involved in a nasty murder incident, he ends up sparing her. In that same incident he also showed capability of lying, as he claimed that he ran out of ammunition so she could escape. He then promptly turns around and shoots those after her. Because he has the ability to think critically, he is able to come up with and execute his own plans without previous orders or guidance. He has also been shown to delete or alter previous programming. He deleted the code that made it so he couldn't damage himself because he found it useless.
The largest argument for his more human nature comes in the special side chapters in the manga dedicated to him. In these chapters, Tres encounters another Killing Doll. In the ensuing battle with his brother model a virus is uploaded into his system. He is told numerous times during this that he is "broken" or "incomplete" and should be destroyed. Because he failed his mission and failed to carry out orders, he doesn't even count as a machine. At this point, with the virus in his system, he starts to question his very status as a robot. "A weapon that failed to kill, is there any meaning to my existence?" is something he asks himself. This sort of questioning is generally not something a robot should be capable of.
He finds his answer in the memory of the Duchess of Milan. His memories of her are held with the highest security and her word is obeyed above all others. He is fervently loyal to her, following her even after the AX is dissolved. His devotion to her borders on what might be considered love, though it is thought to be the unconditional love of a pet to its master. In fact, Abel remarks that Tres feels "worried" when he is away from Rome and her. He has willingly advocated ignoring saving an entire city of people in order to save just her. He has pled with her to change her orders in order to protect her, asking for permission to be a part of the mission when she doesn't, regardless of his damage. To Tres, being Caterina Sfortza's gun is his entire reason for being. He gets visibly angry when he is told his memories of her are garbage.
He would rather be with her than anywhere else. When she discovers she's sick and dying, he is one of the few present for that diagnosis. At that time, he shows that human compassion and tries to comfort her. Yet, as soon as she orders him away on a mission he goes, regardless of his feelings.
_ITEMS: 2 Jerico handguns (known to be his canon's largest known handguns, using 13mm 512 Maxima Rounds). 10 full round clips. Vatican AX uniform with shoulder armor.
